Harvest Day

October 23, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm EDT

Spend a fall afternoon on the Hampton plantation (on the farm side) and experience Antebellum-era farming traditions and techniques. Learn about pressing apples for cider, making corn husk dolls, and churning milk for butter. Hear the sounds of a blacksmith at work, along with 19th century music.  And kids can even join us for a corn shucking contest!  Park rangers will guide you through the farm buildings where you can learn more about the lives of the indentured, enslaved, and paid laborers who fueled the Hampton estate. Living history volunteers will showcase music on the banjo and fiddle and demonstrate 19th century farming techniques.
